In all projects with the Environment Agency, it was important to portray the scene in a reasonably realistic and factual way. The council, the public and businesses in the area need to easily understand how the project will affect the beach and other public
areas, such as the promenade, during construction and then what the improvements will look like completed.
After the initial briefing we took reference shots and drone footage that gave us the flexibility to provide a choice of viewpoints for the final illustrations. The drone footage gave us the elevated viewpoints required for both Sandown and Shanklin sea defence projects.
Once the camera angle was approved, we imported the image into C4D to camera track the footage which then provided us with a base to start creating the more technical parts of the sea defences — walls, railings, seating, vehicles, cofferdam etc. This was mapped in over the image. The background areas were created in a more traditional illustration format and all elements were pulled together to create the single images.
